Find Your Voice, Live Your Heart Narrative Healing Arts Retreat: New York

Find Your Voice Narrative Arts Workshop at Woodstock Sanctuary

Saturday, October 5th from 9am–8pm

Compassion Arts Festival 2019 is excited to announce a new program coming to New York in October, presented in two parts, starting with an all-day True Storytelling Workshop at Woodstock Sanctuary on October 5 th (9am-8pm) — Find Your Voice Narrative Arts Workshop led by the visionary TMI Project and presented by Compassion Arts in partnership with In Defense of Animals Sustainable Activism.

This is a narrative arts workshop for animal caregivers, rescuers, animal advocates, vegan peace activists and ordinary individuals who care about animals. The workshop will begin with a tour of the sanctuary followed by three 2 hour writing sessions. It will include vegan lunch and dinner and end with music by storyteller EC Lorick.

The focus of the workshop will be on unfolding personal stories of unresolved or unspoken experiences with animals who’ve impacted our lives in meaningful ways. Stories from the workshop ( with writers’ permission) will be developed into a staged reading presentation called ANIMAL STORY for multi-media performance in NYC on October 25th , hosted by Michael Harren and directed by Emerie Snyder. Workshop participants who are interested their narratives being included in the ANIMAL STORY staged reading will be welcome to present their stories themselves if they wish or have their stories read by someone else. All stories written by workshop participants are the property of the individuals writing them. FYI: Participation in ANIMAL STORY staged reading is not a requirement for the 10/5 workshop. (For info about the staged reading event see ANIMAL STORY for details or contact )

Our workshop facilitator, TMI Project, is a NY based True Storytelling organization that is “changing the world one story at a time.” TMI Project works to expand empathy and compassion by empowering marginalized voices to give expression to the painful or embarrassing stories that are specific to the personal experiences that we do not speak of but, silently carry with us. TMI Project empowers workshop participants by providing a safe space, tools, and a narrative framework for giving voice to these stories in a new way that connects and empowers, and that cultivates understanding and awareness in the listener. TMI has worked with Planned Parenthood, Black Lives Matter, United Nations, Omega Institute and others and have facilitated the sharing hundreds of powerful narratives from people and communities with stories from a wide range of perspectives.
